The shoreline contains the northwestern terminus of Interstate 5 at State Route 523 (partially). Still, this section has been replaced by I-5 between Interstates 90/94 and part of SR 522 (which runs along both sides), plus some residential roads that run parallel but perpendicularly.
However, there are still several miles worth of drivable before reaching a point where one can turn around safely on this route because they would have to cross over onto SR 520, which takes you further west than either I-5 or SR 520 alone would take you since they both go through downtown Seattle itself before hitting another freeway just outside its boundaries again.
