Co-WIN: Everything You Wanted to Know

COVID-19 has been a nightmare for the entire world since it struck first in the year 2019. Since then a lot of people have lost their lives, battling this deadly virus. Our lives came to a standstill. We were forced to stay confined in our homes to prevent the spread of this virus and practice social distancing. If we were to even step out of the house, we have to keep the masks on. However, the development of the vaccine came as a relief in our lives.

What is Co-WIN?

The government is depending on Co-WIN, a digital intelligence platform that was launched in January 2021, to carry out the Covid-19 vaccination program as efficiently as possible. It is based on the Vaccine Intelligence Network (eVIN), a locally created electronic platform that has been in use since 2015. The government of India has made it compulsory for all Indian citizens to register on Co-WIN applications who desire to get vaccinated against coronavirus.

How does the Co-WIN platform work?

Co-WIN is a cloud-based IT solution that helps with organizing, implementing, overseeing, and assessing Covid-19 vaccination in India. It is an all-encompassing solution that links the entire public health system, from the global level down to the level of the vaccine provider. Co-WIN enables the creation of various users (admins, supervisors, and vaccine providers), beneficiary registration, planning and scheduling sessions, vaccine administration, and beneficiary follow-up after vaccination. The app keeps track of vaccine supply available at the federal, state, and local levels as well as recipients in real-time. This enables the system to keep track of the Covid-19 vaccination’s usage, wastage, and coverage at various levels.

You can register on the Co-WIN web portal https://www.cowin.gov.in or download the app on your smartphone. Co-WIN app download is fairly simple and can be done from Google Playstore, or the iOS app store.
