Travel In Scotland As A Scottish Lord

Scotland, the majestic and magical land to the north of merry old England, has long attracted travellers with its secluded lochs, stormy coasts, and epic highlands. A great many people trace their ancestry back to this fair northern country, and even if they only have a drop or two of the blood running in their veins there’s an attraction to Scotland’s wild, rugged nature, and warm, hearty people that transcends ancestry, the place calls to us with the skirling strains of the bagpipes across a misty moor.

So, it’s not surprising that so many people are drawn to Scotland, some even deciding to buy lord titles in Canada naming them as a Scottish ‘laird’ or lord of a small piece of land, affiliating them with one of the many famed clans, and giving them the official right to proudly wear their clan’s uniquely patterned tartan plaid. Imagine if you were planning to visit Scotland how much fun it would be to bear the title and wear the colours, confirming your bond to the land and people!

There is so much to see and experience in the land of the thistle and moor, it’s hard to know where to begin one’s lordly tour! The following are a few of our favourite Scottish wonders to whet your appetite:

The Green Loch – A liquid emerald set in the rocky crown of The Highlands is not to be missed. According to legend the faerie king of the pixies washed his clothes in the loch bestowing the unique green tint to its deep, still waters.

Fingal’s Cave – The Isle of Staffa is home to this incredibly geometric hexagonal cave formed of nearly perfect six-sided basalt rock pillars. It was made by the same ancient lava flow that formed its neighbour across the sea in Ireland, The Giants Causeway. If there ever were giants, this fascinating natural wonder would surely be the place they would call home!

Rannoch Moor – The Highlands are home to one of the few great wildernesses remaining in Europe, a vast stretch of uninhabitable peat bogs, dotted by heather-bedecked hillocks. A wildlife enthusiast’s wonderland, the moor is home to a plethora of animal species including Scotland’s native grouse and red deer.

Realizing we have only scratched the surface of all that Scotland has to offer, we do hope that you will be inspired to visit, lord or not!
